Tom Curtin
Tom founded Curtin&Co after he stepped down as chief executive of Green Issues Communications – which he also founded – one of the fastest-growing and most successful community relations companies of the last decade; growing from nothing to some 40 people within a decade and entering PR Week’s top 50 companies.
Previously, he was Head of Media Relations at Thames Water Plc at the time of its privatization, where he dealt with a wide range of environmental issues and led the upgrading of the company’s crisis management procedures. After, he was Head of Corporate Relations for Nirex, leading a large communications team working on the disposal of radioactive waste – obviously, one of the most controversial issues in the world. He is a scientist (Mathematics and Physics) by training but has spent most of his career in journalism and public relations. Currently, Tom is a visiting professor on crisis and media at the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Switzerland, one of the world’s leading business schools (www.imd.ch)
Antony Calvert
Antony is the current prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC) for the Conservative Party in the Morley and Outwood constituency. He is a former deputy group leader of the Wakefield Council Conservative group, overseeing a rapid expansion in elected councillors from 7 to 23. Antony has significant experience of working on large scale regeneration projects, as well as national infrastructure applications and local authorities throughout the UK.
He also has a strong media background and has worked effectively with local, regional and national media. Antony is also a member of many parliamentary pressure groups both within and outside of the Conservative Party.
Catherine Worboys
Catherine joined Curtin&Co at the beginning of 2009. She graduated from the London School of Economics in 2008, having also studied at King’s College, Cambridge, where she read Sociology and Politics. Catherine manages the logistics of Curtin&Co’s crisis management processes and training programmes.
Aonghus Curtin
Aonghus manages client relationships and is also in charge of the company’s development, including events and promotions. Until August last year, he held a similar position with Green Issues, where he had been for over two years.
Frank Browne
Frank was leader of Wokingham Borough Council for six years and spent 12 years as a councillor.
He was a member of the planning committee for four years, as well as chairman of the highways committee. Whilst leader he chaired the Berkshire Leaders Group, represented the county on the South East Leaders Panel and was a member of the South East England Regional Assembly He remains an active member of the Conservative Party, worked on the 2008 Obama presidential campaign in North Carolina and is currently the Rt Hon Theresa May’s campaign director. He spent four years at Green Issues Communications where he worked with clients in the house building, energy and retail sectors.
Robert Evans
Robert was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1994 until 2009. He has held a wide range of responsibilities during his three terms, of which the following are but a few. He was the front bench spokesman on transport from 2004.
Robert was a member of the committee on transport and tourism which has responsibility for liaising with 10 Downing Street and UK Secretaries of State and the Department of Transport. He was the rapporteur (lead MEP) on outlawing discrimination against disabled people and a spokesperson on the better use of inland waterways. He was a front bench spokesperson on home affairs and civil liberties.
Paul Harvey
Paul is an elected councillor in the Borough of Basingstoke & Deane. A former Council Leader and Cabinet Member, Paul has over 15 years of political experience working in the North and South East. Paul worked on SEERA’s South East Plan, sitting on the SEERA Executive and Planning Committee’s.
Paul has worked with SEEDA, GOSE and many local councils throughout the country. He formerly worked for Green Issues Communications and has worked with many leading national companies in the development, business park, retail, aggregates and minerals industries; as well as the public and private sectors. Paul developed a respected and successful reputation amongst these major clients.
Phil Hall
Paul was a senior press and research assistant for Jonathan Shaw, the Labour MP for Chatham & Aylesford (2002-2006). Phil also has a strong campaigning and consultation background and is highly skilled in media relations, newsletter production and event planning.
Phil went on to head the Media and Public Affairs division of the ‘ifs’, a global training organisation for finance professionals, where he increased press coverage by 500% and secured numerous public affairs objectives before being promoted to run ifs ProShare – a trade association for the employee share ownership industry. In this role Phil worked with a diverse range of businesses and their advisers and was recently responsible for securing compensation guarantees for 2.3 million employee shareholders.
Alec Kellaway
Alec has been a Labour councillor at Newham Borough Council since 1987 where he is the Mayoral Advisor (Business and Skills), which includes fostering and maintaining links with the business community. Recent initiatives include Workplace, an integrated one-stop-shop for advice on employment and training. Over the past 10 years, Alec has served on six Single Regeneration Boards (SRBs) with a total budget in excess of £100 million – coming from government and the private sector. Newham is at the heart of the 2012 Olympics with some of the largest regeneration schemes in the world. Alex is also an economist and market researcher, with a strong background in financial service.
Andrew Millard
Andrew is a member of the Conservative Party. He has stood at general elections twice being defeated narrowly on both occasions. He was a Leeds City Councillor from 2003 to 2007 where he was the lead member for corporate services with responsibility for finance, benefits, audit, employment and information technology.
Andrew has also worked at officer level as Interim Assistant Director (Policy, Performance and Transitional Change) for Labour-controlled Slough Borough Council where he transformed scrutiny, helped drive efficiency and cost savings and improved the CPA rating from 2-star to 3-star. Andrew has a strong background in commercial, voluntary and regulatory arenas where he remains active.
David Arscott
David Arscott has worked in a wide variety of media fields. His career has seen him write for and edit newspapers both in the UK and overseas and rise to the position of Senior Producer for BBC radio and television (both local and national).
For many years taught media techniques in the UK and abroad for both public and private sector clients. He is also a writer and publisher, with a long list of fiction and non-fiction titles to his name.
Ally Kennedy
Ally has worked with a number of Liberal Democrat politicians, campaigners and candidates at all parliamentary levels. He worked closely with Liberal Democrat Policy Advisers in the run-up to the General Election at their Westminster Headquarters, particularly on the Home Affairs brief under the current Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne. Prior to this Ally worked for the former MP Mark Oaten, as well as the Lib Dem PPC for Winchester Martin Tod as chief researcher and press officer. He remains an active voice within the Liberal Democrats and has a considerable network of parliamentary and local party links to call upon. Ally also holds a degree in politics from Leeds University.
Fiona Curtin
Fiona was a partner and main-board director in Arthur Llewellyn Jenkins, one of Wales’ most successful and fast growing furniture retailers, for over twenty years. When she sold her share holding in 2005, the business had two superstores in Cardiff and Swansea with a turnover in excess of £15 million. Fiona’s direct responsibilities included brand and reputation management and all advertising from creation to implementation. ( TV, radio, newspaper, direct mail, outdoor, etc.)
From 2000 to 2003, Fiona was a non-executive director of Associated Independent Stores Ltd, the largest independent non-food buying group in the UK with a combined turnover of £1.8 billion.
Previously, she worked for AP-Dow Jones Telerate in London and Milan and successfully launched a real-time FX and MM calculation system for a dealing-room software consultancy.
