Community Relations
Political Liaison
Tom Curtin founded one of the fastest growing public affairs companies of the past decade. Curtin&Co has an in-depth understanding of political systems particularly at the local level. Through our consultant advisors, we also have a thorough understanding at the national and European level. A wide range of experienced politicians act as consultants to the company bringing unique insights and analysis. The company is strong on face-to-face contact and meticulous research.
Consultation and Community Relations
Never has been consultation been more important with government agencies such as the IPC saying that poor consultation could be grounds for refusing a project. Curtin&Co takes an innovative and original approach to this area which goes well beyond ‘sticking up a few boards in the town hall’. In line with government guidance, we reach out to the community getting meaningful and sensible comment. Often modifications to schemes can be incorporated at little or no cost whilst winning community backing.
Media Relations
Curtin&Co has wide experience in media relations around difficult or contentious projects. Tom Curtin was Head of Media Relations at Thames Water, which supplies London and parts of the South East of England, at the time of privatisation. It was one of the most contentious privatizations ever. It was strongly resisted by – among others – green groups and opposition politicians. Media also focused on a wide range of environmental and health concerns. As Head of Corporate Communications in the nuclear industry, Tom Curtin dealt with a wide range of contentious media issues. He has 15 years direct media experience as a journalist and editor. Curtin&Co offers the full range of media relations services including:
- advice on specific media issues
- when needed, a ‘turn-key’ press office
- media back-up in special circumstances, for example in a crisis
